Join En Garde Fencing Club and Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Park as we team up to explore the art of stage combat! At Steel on Stage Summer Camp, we will learn the basic skills of modern sport fencing and then take those swords on to the stage.
We will start each day learning the basic skills of modern fencing, including footwork and bladework, that we will then translate into that day's stage combat work. After lunch, we will move into stage combat instruction. Working on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", we will create vivid characters, master Shakespearean dialogue, and learn choreographed fights using techniques from modern fencing.
Friday afternoon, we will invite friends and families to come and see "Romeo and Juliet - The Good Parts Abridged Version." (The version that leaves out all of the love and romance and tragic moaning and concentrates on the heart of the play: the really cool fight scenes!)
Dates: June 24th through 28th
Times: 9AM to 4PM
Ages: 8-16 years
Cost: $300 per student
Location:En Garde Fencing Club

Fencers of all experience levels are welcome to join us! If you have fencing experience, please indicate that on the Registration Form. All fencers will need to attend the morning session (fencing instruction) regardless of experience level in order to ensure that all campers have the same background for the afternoon session, where the skills learned in the morning will be used in stage combat.
If you have your own fencing equipment, you are welcome to bring it with you as well.
This camp will involve a lot of physical activity, so please come prepared to move! We ask that campers wear appropriate clothing, including long pants for safety.
